Tom Hiddleston fans, rejoice! For it looks as though the malevolent Loki will have a small part to play in next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, along with Idris Elba and Chris Hemsworth — who play Heimdall and Thor, respectively.

That’s according to Elba himself, who let slip that the Asgardian trio will have a minor role in Joss Whedon’s upcoming sequel, while Loki’s involvement extends far into Marvel’s recently-released slate of blockbusters.

Chief among those is Thor: Ragnarok — a threequel that has been billed as an absolute game-changer for the MCU — and both parts of the climatic ensemble piece, Avengers: Infinity War. Here’s a snippet from the report published by Comic Book Movie:

“[Marvel producer] Kevin Feige says Thor’s villainous step-brother will be in both Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War,” states the report.

The reason that Hiddleston’s Loki has such an integral role in Marvel’s phase three is because of the Chitauri Scepter. Gifted to him by Thanos with the intention of world domination, the mind-bending weapon holds one of the powerful infinity stones that the Mad Titan so desires for his shiny gauntlet.

So, now that Loki has effectively failed the would-be ruler of the universe, it’s likely that Thanos will have the God of Mischief do his bidding and gather the precious gems from the four corners of the galaxy. Of course, this remains mere conjecture at this point and we’ll have to wait until next year’s Age of Ultron before we learn more of Loki’s role in the grander scheme of things.

Following the earth-set escapades of Whedon’s sequel, fans can look forward to seeing Hiddleston’s Loki in Thor: Ragnarok when it releases on July 28, 2017, while Avengers: Infinity Part 1 and Part 2 will follow suit on May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 respectively.
