Based on the memoir by Cheryl Strayed, Wild has been kept out of cinemas for some time to increase Reese Witherspoon’s chances of bagging another golden statuette. As a true story adaptation, Academy-bait is woven into its core by the fact that it actually happened. Whether or not that particularly boring selection criterion is true or not, Wild certainly has enough dramatic elements to qualify in other areas. This latest little clip to remind Academy voters and the public that the film exists is a quaint scene showcasing Witherspoon’s gritty determination.
The film charts Strayed’s solitary hike on the Pacific Crest Trail after a series of unfortunate incidents in her life. Captured by grief after the death of her mother and the breakdown of her marriage, a 1000 mile jaunt on foot seems like the perfect way to take a step in the right direction. It’s an undoubtedly moving story.
Wild joins the ranks of many other movies which chronicle a person’s attempt to better themselves by venturing outside of their comfort zone, and ultimately find peace. During this latest brief clip, we see Strayed relieved to have passed a milestone in her journey. It’s not the most revealing part of the flick, but it is a gentle nudge to those who’d forgotten its release will soon be upon us.
