For those Middle Earth diehards who are chomping at the bit to see Peter Jackson’s last trip to the fantastical realm… we bring good news. According to one of the most reputable fan sites surrounding all things Middle Earth, OneRing.net, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will be storming into theatres two days early at select locations. The report has yet to be confirmed by Warner Bros., but the studio rolled out a similar strategy in 2003 prior to the release of Return Of The King.

On December 15th, a whole two days earlier than the official release of Five Armies, a number of IMAX theatres will present all three films in The Hobbit series back-to-back for a marathon of bladder-testing proportions. To ensure that you bag yourself a seat, tickets will be made available for advance purchase on November 14th. The approximate showtimes for the day are as follows:

  • 1:00pm An Unexpected Journey (theatrical edition)
  • 4:05pm The Desolation of Smaug (theatrical edition)
  • 7:00pm The Battle of the Five Armies

It’s safe to say that this will be a must-see event for fans of the trilogy, but for those who only want the final slice of the action, The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies arrives in cinemas worldwide on December 17th, 2014.

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.
