Following up on her eye-catching, blood-curdling stint as Amazing Amy in David Fincher’s Gone Girl, Rosamund Pike has been eyed for a lead role in Hany Abu-Assad’s adaptation, The Mountain Between Us.
News comes by way of Deadline, who report that the actress is in talks to star alongside Pacific Rim‘s Charlie Hunnam for the survival tale, which is based on the eponymous novel by Charles Martin. First published in 2010, the book orbits around an unlikely pair who find themselves united by a cancelled flight. Ashley (Pike) is a novelist herself, waiting on an eastbound flight to make it home in time for her wedding, whereas Ben (Hunnam) is a doctor returning home from a medical conference.
In transit, a horrific accident occurs that forces the plane to crash land on a remote snowy mountain region (hence the title) making way for a tale about love, loss and ultimately, survival.
Filming isn’t due to begin on The Mountain Between Us until late 2015, given that Pike is expecting her second child. Nevertheless, we’ll keep you posted with any development on the nascent project as it appears. For now, check out a brief plot synopsis below.
On a stormy winter night, two strangers wait for a flight at the Salt Lake City airport. Ashley Knox is an attractive, successful writer, who is flying East for her much anticipated wedding. Dr. Ben Payne has just wrapped up a medical conference and is also eager to return home to Jacksonville, FL for a slate of surgeries he has scheduled for the following day.
When the last outgoing flight is canceled due to a broken de-icer and a forthcoming storm, Ben finds a charter plane that can take him around the storm and drop him in Denver to catch a connection. The pilot has a heart attack mid-flight and the plane crashes into the High Uintas Wilderness — one of the largest stretches of harsh and remote land in the United States.
