The Barden Bellas Are Back In First Image For Musical Sequel Pitch Perfect 2

To label 2012's Pitch Perfect as a cult classic is somewhat of an understatement. Pulling in close to $120 million on a budget of $17 million, the musical comedy was a bona fide hit, so it should come as no surprise that Universal was eager to get the ball rolling on a sequel. And today, we have our first look at that follow-up in question thanks to Entertainment Weekly, with returning stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow adorning this week's cover for Pitch Perfect 2.

To label 2012’s Pitch Perfect as a cult classic is somewhat of an understatement. Pulling in close to $120 million on a budget of $17 million, the musical comedy was a bona fide hit, so it should come as no surprise that Universal was eager to get the ball rolling on a sequel. And today, we have our first look at that follow-up in question thanks to Entertainment Weekly, with returning stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, and Brittany Snow adorning this week’s cover for Pitch Perfect 2.

The sequel will see Elizabeth Banks step up from actress/producer to director, as The Hunger Games star has been brought onboard to replace Jason Moore from the first film. Speaking to EW, the actress-turned-filmmaker poked fun at the task in front of her.

“This is the stupidest idea I’ve ever had,” she jokes during a break in shooting. “My first movie is this huge studio movie that a lot of people care about that also happens to be a musical with massive dance numbers. I don’t know what I was thinking.”

Though we’re still yet to see any footage from the sequel, Banks did unveil some plot details a little while ago, hinting that Pitch Perfect 2 will follow the Bellas as graduating seniors — graduating seniors who find themselves staring at the beginning of the rest of their lives. Joining Kendrick, Wilson, Snow (and of course, Banks) for the follow-up are  Anna Camp, Ben Platt, Adam DeVine, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Kelley Jakle, Shelley Regner, and John Michael Higgins.

Pitch Perfect 2 will sing it loud and proud when Banks’ sequel arrives in theaters on May 15th, 2015. For now, you can catch an early look at the Barden Bellas in the photo below.
