WWE Superstar Sheamus Wants To Play Venom

A few years ago, it would have seemed outlandish to think of a WWE champion taking on a major role in a superhero movie, but both Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Dave Batista, who play antiheroes Black Adam and Drax the Destroyer, respectively, have proven that it can be done. Now, it appears that current WWE superstar Sheamus (Stephen Farrelly) may join that exclusive club as well.

A few years ago, it would have seemed outlandish to think of a WWE champion taking on a major role in a superhero movie, but both Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dave Batista, who play antiheroes Black Adam and Drax the Destroyer, respectively, have proven that it can be done. Now, it appears that current WWE superstar Sheamus (Stephen Farrelly) may join that exclusive club as well.

It seems that Dublin-born Sheamus has set his sights on a Hollywood career and is keen on tackling a famous antihero of his own: Venom. In a new interview, the pro wrestler cites current superhero actors Michael Fassbender, Robert Downey Jr. and Hugh Jackman as those he’d most like to work with, and feels that he could do violent, symbiote-wearing Eddie Brock justice:

“I always read comic books as a kid, I always remember Eddie Brock, who was Venom in the Spider-Man comics. He was kind of a red head. I’d love to play the role of Venom and Eddie Brock. Venom was one of my favorite characters. It would be a dream come true for me to star in the next Spider-Man film as Venom.”

Sheamus’ chances of landing such a role aside, we’re still not even sure there will be an Amazing Spider-Man 3, or even a Venom spinoff for that matter. Sony’s plans for the web-slinging franchise are up in the air right now thanks to disappointing box office numbers earned by The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which has led to some truly baffling rumors, like an Aunt May-centric spy thriller.

Still, Sheamus playing Venom is an intriguing possibility. He does have the physical presence for it, and after the scene-stealing performance Batista gave in Guardians of the Galaxy, I won’t rule out the idea of someone going from the WWE to superhero cinema as easily as I would have a year ago.
