Sony is looking to remake George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel 1984, and they’ve brought Paul Greengrass on board to direct. Joining the Captain Phillips helmer will be Scott Rudin on producing duties and Finding Neverland‘s James Graham penning the script.

No word on casting yet, but with such an attractive batch of talent behind the camera, you can bet that this one is going to draw some pretty big names. Maybe Greengrass will get his buddy Matt Damon on board for yet another big screen outing? Only time will tell.

Personally, while I think that Paul Greengrass is an excellent director, and count Captain Phillips as one of my favorite films the past several years, I’m not sure he’s the one to be remaking 1984. It’s not exactly a story that would benefit from his directorial style, (or at least, I don’t see how it would) and I’d much rather see him tackle something else. Besides, does anyone want to see a remake of 1984? Sure, some of its messages and themes are still relevant today, and it’s a fantastic story, but I don’t really see why we need another version of it.

Tell us, do you think 1984 really needs a remake, and if so, is Paul Greengrass the man to do it? Sound off below!
