While it’s still very much brewing in production, one of the biggest tidbits to come out of the set of Joe Wright’s Pan over the summer was the fact that Hugh Jackman shaved his entire head in order to play the infamous pirate Blackbeard, and today, we got our very first look at the Les Misérables star in costume, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.

Billed as a whole new spin on J.M. Barrie’s classic play, Warner Bros.’ upcoming adventure stars Levi Miller, Rooney Mara, Amanda Seyfried and Garrett Hedlund, alongside Hugh Jackman. Moreover, Miller’s Pan will drop the impish personality traits of previous iterations and instead portray his character as a world-weary orphan who, as you are already well aware, never grew old.

Having been whisked away from his World War II setting to Neverland under the ruling of Blackbeard, Peter Pan soon discovers a mystical world brimming with awe and wonder — but it’s also a world that he himself is destined to protect. With Jackman’s big bad ruling over the realm with an Iron Fist, it’s up to the ever young Pan to spearhead a rebellion against Blackbeard and his ragtag crew of swashbuckling pirates.

Having directed the likes of Atonement and acclaimed drama Anna Karenina over the years, it’ll be interesting to see how Wright handles such a famous and beloved character. Atonement proved that he has a sharp eye for adaptation, even if it means bending the rules from time to time, so we have high hopes for the filmmaker’s journey to the wonderful world of Neverland.

Joe Wright’s Pan looks to introduce moviegoers to a whole new side of Neverland when it soars into theaters on July 17th, 2015.
