The seventh and final season of NBC’s brilliant workplace comedy, Parks And Recreation, will debut at the beginning of next year for what network heads are calling “the first TV event of the new year.” The sitcom, about a small-town America bureaucrat with a heart of gold, will debut its premiere on January 13th at 8pm – followed immediately by another brand new half-hour episode.
In an attempt to ensure the much-loved show goes out with a bang, NBC are taking things up a notch by rolling out TWO new episodes every week. This weekly double dose means that of course, the show will conclude sooner rather than later. But that’s all keeping in line with NBC’s start-of-year plan, according to their Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt:
“Mike Schur and Amy Poehler, along with their incredible producers, cast and crew, have given us one of the great television comedies of all time, and we’re inordinately proud of Parks and Recreation. In an effort to give it the send-off it deserves, we wanted to ‘eventize’ the final season to maximize the impact of these episodes, which really do take the show to a new level. The highly anticipated one-hour finale will air behind The Voice in order to lead the largest audience possible into what promises to be a very special hour of television.”
Amy Poehler leads the show in the role of Leslie Knope, the head of the Pawnee parks and recreation department who rallies together her rag-tag employees to battle small town madness. Throughout the six seasons she was joined by the comic genius of series regulars Chris Pratt, Aubrey Plaza, Aziz Ansari, Rashida Jones, Nick Offerman, Retta and Adam Scott.
Considering the first season sagged due to a misguided attempt at making Leslie ditzy, the show has gone from strength to strength. The cast and crew have received numerous awards nods, and if this ambitious final season delivers, it looks like there’ll be even more of those when Parks And Recreation returns to screens in January 2015.
