Los Angeles-based DJ/producer Dillon Francis is quickly cementing himself as a staple of the EDM industry, turning heads with his refreshing sounds and absolutely hilarious social media antics. First gaining attention back in 2011 when he signed to Diplo’s record label, Mad Decent, the rise to fame has been a quick and exciting one for Francis.

In just a few short years, Dillon has put out a full-length studio album, collaborated with some of EDM’s hottest artists, earned himself a reputation as being one of the best entertainers in the industry and most importantly, is often regarded as one of the most friendly and down to earth producers out there. That last sentiment is certainly something that I can attest to, as I recently had the privilege of interviewing Francis before his show in Toronto this week.

Currently on his Money Sucks, Friends Rule tour, supporting his new album, Dillon stopped at The Danforth Music Hall on Monday for a sold-out concert. Playing to an ecstatic crowd, and then headlining the afterparty at The Hoxton alongside Zeds Dead, the DJ gave fans a night that they won’t soon forget.

Before the party began, however, I caught up with Dillon for an exclusive interview. Throughout our lengthy discussion, we spoke about his new album, how Diplo has influenced his career, what went down during the Mad Decent Boat Party and why his social media accounts are so damn funny. Oh, and most crucially, he also clears the air on why he hates his cat so much.
