Ubisoft has followed up on a recent leak to confirm that 2015’s entry into the Assassin’s Creed series will indeed take the blockbuster open-world franchise to Victorian London.
The report comes by way of Kotaku, who picked up on a leak that labelled the next parkour-infused adventure as Assassin’s Creed Victory — it’s unclear whether this is an internal or official moniker — with all signs pointing to a fall 2015 release.
Now, the French publisher has responded to the untimely announcement, and offered its solidarity to fans and in particular the dev team — Ubisoft Quebec, in this instance — who are understandably disappointed.
“It is always unfortunate when internal assets, not intended for public consumption, are leaked. And, while we certainly welcome anticipation for all of our upcoming titles, we’re disappointed for our fans, and our development team, that this conceptual asset is now public. The team in our Quebec studio has been hard at work on the particular game in question for the past few years, and we’re excited to officially unveil what the studio has been working on at a later date. In the meantime, our number one priority is enhancing the experience of Assassin’s Creed Unity for players.”
Mind you, this isn’t the first time that an Assassin’s Creed game has leaked ahead of schedule; in fact, screenshots for both Rogue and Unity made their way online months before Ubisoft formally announced anything earlier this year.
Nonetheless, the purported Assassin’s Creed Victory will be the only entry into the series for 2015 and will likely forego the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in favor of current-gen consoles and PC.
Fans have long expressed their desire to see Assassin’s Creed jump ship and move to London for a fully-fledged experience, and now you may say that they have their, ahem, victory.
