Square Enix has clarified that the only possible way of accessing the upcoming demo for Final Fantasy XV is by purchasing Final Fantasy Type-0 HD and has “no plans” to release the trial as a standalone experience.

Due out in March, 2015, the demo is attached to the company’s upcoming rerelease of the PSP original, but Square confirmed that this will be the only means of getting to try out XV ahead of time. Taking to the PlayStation Blog, marketing chief Scott Strichart confirmed the announcement.

“This demo is exclusive to Final Fantasy Type-0 HD,” he said. “We’re never going to release it as a standalone piece down the line. It’s intended to be a special gift for those of you who purchase early.

“The demo will be limited to the ‘Day One’ edition of the game, meaning that only the first shipment is going to have the demo in it. So if the demo is something you think you might like, we highly encourage you to pre-order or to be quick about getting to the store on launch day, March 17th, 2015 [US launch date].”

Though the decision to make the demo exclusive to Final Fantasy XV is a good business move, fans will no doubt be disappointed that Square has stunted the reach of the installment to a larger audience — especially considering how well the trailers have been received thus far. But whether this is a merely a means of pushing pre-orders of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is a question we’ll leave to you.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is due to make its bow on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 17, 2015 and will be the only means of accessing the demo Final Fantasy XV. But do you think this is a fair move on Square Enix’s part? Let us know below.
