Check Out First Image Of Tina Fey And Amy Poehler In Sisters

Universal's Sisters has all the makings of a comic classic and it's still a year away from release. Directed by Pitch Perfect's Jason Moore from a script by SNL scribe Paula Pell, those two factors alone suggest it could be next year's biggest chucklefest. On top of that winning foundation, throw two small-screen comics who have completely invigorated the TV slate with 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation and you can consider us very, very excited.

Universal’s Sisters has all the makings of a comic classic and it’s still a year away from release. Directed by Pitch Perfect‘s Jason Moore from a script by SNL scribe Paula Pell, those two factors alone suggest it could be next year’s biggest chucklefest. On top of that winning foundation, throw two small-screen comics who have completely invigorated the TV slate with 30 Rock and Parks and Recreation and you can consider us very, very excited indeed.

Previously titled The Nest, Sisters follows Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s estranged sisters who return to their family abode as their parents announce they’re about to move. Intending to clear out the clutter, the pair rekindle their sibling relationship and decide to throw one final party to say goodbye to their childhood home. As expected, the bash gets out of hand but the duo learn a lot about life, etc. throughout the process.

Now we’ve got our first look at the pic, which surfaced in EW‘s 2015 preview, in which Fey made a valid point for adults seeking to throw caution out the window. “People our age need a hardcore house party more than a 17-year-old. What are they cutting loose from?” she said. Here, here.

Over the last year, we’ve learned that the project has picked up steam – and a brilliant cast. While the spotlight will shine firmly on its leading ladies, their shenanigans will be aided by a crop of big names. Taking on the patriarchal role as the girls’ dad is James Brolin, with John Cena, Ike Barinholtz, Maya Rudolph, John Leguizamo, Madison Davenport, Greta Lee and Santino Fontana also nabbing smaller roles.

Sisters opens on December 18th, 2015… yes the same day as Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A risky move? Nah. Poehler says it was all part of the plan:

“We said we’d only do the movie if it opened against Star Wars. We’re not scared. It’s what gets us up in the morning: We are going to f—ing crush Star Wars.”
