Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare Lays Claim To Christmas Number One Spot In UK Charts

Though they've competed with one another for the past few weeks, figures published by UKie have revealed that Activision's Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare pipped FIFA 15 to become the Christmas number one in the UK charts. Such a feat marks revenge for the FPS franchise, considering that FIFA 14 benefited from a similarly well-timed price promotion this time last year to leapfrog Ghosts to the top of the charts.

Though they’ve competed with one another for the past few weeks, figures published by UKie have revealed that Activision’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare pipped FIFA 15 to become the Christmas number one in the UK charts. Such a feat marks revenge for the FPS franchise, considering that FIFA 14 benefited from a similarly well-timed price promotion this time last year to leapfrog Ghosts to the top of the charts.

Here’s the Christmas-themed top ten in full, as provided by UKie:

1) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
2) FIFA 15
3) Grand Theft Auto V
4) Far Cry 4
5) Assassin’s Creed: Unity
6) The Crew
7) Destiny
8) Minecraft: Xbox Edition
9) Minecraft: PlayStation Edition
10) Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham

Following those two aforementioned heavy-hitters is Grand Theft Auto V and Far Cry 4, which remain unchanged from last week’s standings in third and fourth, respectively.

It proved to be a good festive week for Ubisoft, though, after price promotions spurred sales of both Assassin’s Creed: Unity and The Crew, with the former jumping from tenth to fifth, while the publisher’s MMO-styled racer put the pedal to the metal to boost from eleventh to sixth.

As for the rest of the charts, it proved to be a cast of regular faces with the likes of Destiny and Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham completing the top ten, whereas Minecraft — perhaps buoyed by Telltale Games’ recent and surprising announcement — slotted into eighth and ninth across Xbox and PlayStation platforms.

Whether Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare can see out the rest of the year from the top spot remains to be seen, and given that retailers will be slashing prices left, right, and center in the aftermath of Christmas, there’s every chances that EA Sports’ footie simulator could reclaim that all-important number one before the year’s end.
