Get Up Close And Personal With The Millennium Falcon In New Star Wars: The Force Awakens Image

While it was often lambasted as a hunk of junk in the original trilogy -- the fastest one in the galaxy, that is -- there's no doubting the Millennium Falcon's innate appeal. Heck, the freighter itself played a part in what was arguably the coolest shot from the very first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and today, Disney has unveiled our first look at the beloved spaceship from the ground level.

Coming by way of Fortune Magazine, the image features the Falcon alongside the company’s CEO Bob Iger. And though we’ve been teased with a number of images both unofficial and official over the past few months, today’s snap is the first official image that Disney has released of the spacecraft.

Even if it is only a side profile, the picture still provides a detailed, close-up look at the Millennium Falcon in all of its glory. Long-term fans of the sci-fi franchise will find Fortune’s stills to be a walk down memory lane, but we’re just happy to see further evidence of Abrams shunning CGI wizardry in favor of practical effects.

The much-anticipated sequel is now less than a year away and will bring together John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, and Anthony Daniels as C-3PO.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will whisk fans to a galaxy far, far away once again when it arrives in theaters on December 18, 2015.
