It was a long time coming, but last year the news that X-Men fan favourite Deadpool would finally be getting his own spinoff movie was met with universal approval. Bringing back Ryan Reynolds as the mouthy mercenary Wade Wilson/Deadpool, who made his splashy cinematic debut in the lacklustre X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the movie is slated for release next February. That’s only a year away! So, today’s news suggests that Fox are putting their foot down as the first additions to the cast have been revealed.
Still in the preliminary stages, The Wrap reports that Silicon Valley‘s T.J. Miller and Game Of Thrones‘ Ed Skrein are in talks for two significant roles. Little else is disclosed in terms of the specific characters, but the news offers a few suggestive hints as to the type of role they’re each up for.
Providing a supporting, comic relief role, Miller’s character “serves as an additional comic voice to compliment Deadpool, who often breaks the fourth wall and speaks directly to the audience.” Skrein, who made waves as the long-haired charmer Dario Nahaaris in Game Of Thrones before departing for The Transporter franchise, is apparently further down the negotiation line. Should he secure the gig, he is thought to be taking on the role of the film’s major villain.
Both actors seem perfectly suited to the archetypes they’re purportedly lined up to play. Miller’s comedic stylings are a great fit to volley back and forth with Reynolds, while Skrein’s got the badass bulk and mischievous glint to go all dark side. Whatever the outcome of these chats, we’ll keep you posted when news of either actor’s confirmation arrives online. Until then, let us know who you think Miller and Skrein will be playing in the comments below.
Directed by Tim Miller and based on a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, Deadpool will arrive in theaters on February 12th, 2016.
