The first trailer for Marvel’s Ant-Man has crawled onto the web tonight. After many delays, production troubles and a whole lot of negative press, we finally get our first real look at the film and I must say, I’m definitely curious about this one.

For those who don’t know, Paul Rudd stars in the superhero flick as Scott Lang, a con-man who is enlisted by his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, to pull off a heist that “will save the world.”

From the looks of the footage that’s presented to us here, it appears as if Ant-Man is going to have a pretty serious tone to it, which is somewhat surprising. Given the involvement of Rudd and Adam McKay, I really thought that we’d be getting something more comedic, perhaps along the lines of Guardians of the Galaxy. Who knows, maybe the full film will be different? After all, we do see a few humorous bits throughout, but I was just expecting a lot more.

Aside from that, there’s not much that we can take away from this first trailer. Rudd looks competent in the role, and there appears to be some intriguing drama sprinkled in here and a strong focus on character, which is nice to see. Other than that though, it’s still a bit early to draw a definite conclusion as to how this one will turn out. As I said above though, I am curious about it and the trailer certainly has my interest piqued. Besides, after Guardians of the Galaxy, I don’t think anyone can really doubt Marvel. At this point, they’ve earned more than enough goodwill.

Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña and Judy Greer, and will crawl into theatres everywhere on July 17th, 2015.
