Big Bad Wolf, the creative minds that have worked on the likes of Game of ThronesStyx: Master of Shadows and even World of Warcraft, have unveiled plans to develop a new “dark” RPG for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Billed as an all-new IP, the studio outlined their future goals through their official website, citing their past experience with narrative-driven content that will likely play a big part as this new vision comes to form.

“We strive to create games with strong narrative content, offering a new role-playing experience closer to paper RPGs, and we are currently working on our first title based upon a new IP. Our efforts are directed towards mature, inward-looking and dark games where emotions and choice are at the forefront of the player experience.”

Alongside the mission statement, Big Bad Wolf unveiled a couple of obscure screenshots from the nascent title, showcasing what appears to be a chessboard along with several characters in old-fashioned dressing. Whether this situates the studio’s next outing within a period setting remains to be seen, but these early signs certainly indicate that the game will at least in part have a historic context.
