Predicting The 72nd Annual Golden Globes

The Golden Globes are fast approaching, so once again, it's time to reveal my predictions for what nominees I feel have the best chance of being victorious in their respective categories. As usual, we have a lot of categories that appear to be locks, but we also have a couple of categories where two or three nominees have a great chance of winning, so without further delay, let's get right to it.

The Golden Globes are fast approaching, so once again, it’s time to reveal my predictions for what nominees I feel have the best chance of being victorious in the 14 film categories. As usual, we have a lot of categories that appear to be locks, but we also have a couple of categories where two or three nominees have a great chance of winning, so without further delay, let’s get right to it.

BEST ORIGINAL SONG
“Big Eyes” (Big Eyes)
“Glory” (Selma)
“Mercy Is” (Noah)
“Opportunity” (Annie)
“Yellow Flicker Beat” (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part I)

Unfortunately, this is a category where we simply don’t have much to go on. However, in an effort to make it somewhat educated, my reasoning is this: as Selma isn’t a leader in any of its other three categories, I have a feeling that the HFPA will lean towards “Glory” so that the film doesn’t walk away empty-handed. Given that it’s the biggest awards contender in the category, it seems as good a pick as any.

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE – MOTION PICTURE
Johann Johannsson – The Theory of Everything
Alexandre Desplat – The Imitation Game
Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross – Gone Girl
Antonio Sanchez – Birdman
Hans Zimmer – Interstellar

Just like with Original Song, this is another category where we don’t have a lot to go on. In fact, if you ask five awards experts, it’s quite possible you’ll get five different answers. However, going by what we do have, we find that Birdman‘s score has been nominated the most, and has even won a few times, so that would be my best guess for the victor of the category.

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
Ida
Tangerines
Leviathan
Force Majeure
Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem

This is where the predictions start to get a little easier. Ida has been winning Best Foreign Language Film awards left and right, so it seems to have a clear, dominating lead to take the category. Force Majeure has won a few awards of its own, so it could be a possible upset, but it would be a little surprising if it was able to overcome Ida‘s momentum.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
How to Train Your Dragon 2
The Boxtrolls
The LEGO Movie
Big Hero 6
The Book of Life

Here we have another category where it seems like an easy slam dunk. The LEGO Movie has been nearly unstoppable throughout awards season, so there isn’t really any reason to believe its streak will end now.
