It’s awards season, and though most of the buzz right now is devoted to which titles stand a fighting chance of being included in tomorrow’s Oscar nominations, the 35th annual Golden Raspberry Awards, known as the Razzies, are here with their nominees to remind us that even that the most loathsome crap of the cinematic crop may be handled some trophies of their own next month.
The nominees for this year’s Razzies – the “winners” of which will be announced on February 21st, the night before the Oscars – are hardly surprising. Michael Bay has always been a favorite punching bag for the mock awards, and his Transformers: Age of Extinction is one of the most frequently mentioned nominees this year (the Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles also made the cut in a number of areas). The barely-remembered The Legend of Hercules shows up an awful lot as well, as does Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas.
All in all, no surprises here. Though my passionate hatred of Godzilla, Lucy, If I Stay and Men, Women & Children means that this list looks a little spare to me, and I wish Annie had been hit a little harder, this is another roundly atrocious set of nominees for the Razzies.
