Harmonix Survey Hints At A Possible Rock Band Revival

The Rock Band series from Harmonix, which consisted of three core titles, spinoffs focusing on The Beatles and Green Day, and 2012's Rock Band Blitz, has been dormant since the end of weekly DLC song distribution back in 2013. That status has been shaken up recently, though, thanks to the surprise release of three new downloadable tracks for Rock Band 3 last week.

The Rock Band series from Harmonix, which consisted of three core titles, spinoffs focusing on The Beatles and Green Day, and 2012’s Rock Band Blitz, has been dormant since the end of weekly DLC song distribution back in 2013. That status has been shaken up recently, though, thanks to the surprise release of three new downloadable tracks for Rock Band 3 last week.

Now, a recent web survey from Harmonix seems to be dropping even more hints that some sort of revival for the series could be on the way. Though there’s no actual confirmation that something is already in the works, there are some noteworthy questions in the later parts of the survey, asking things like what current-gen consoles players own, whether they’d prefer a new Rock Band game to be released on discs or digital only, and the final question straight-up asking if players would be inclined to pre-order a new entry in the series.

As nothing has been officially confirmed by Harmonix yet, it remains to be seen if this will lead to anything concrete, but it’s certainly an indicator that the developer may be interested in doing something new with one of their most iconic franchises. Considering that later Rock Band and Guitar Hero games sold dramatically less than their predecessors, as well as the fact that games like Rocksmith that incorporate real instruments now exist, it will be interesting to see what new hooks Harmonix will bring to the next Rock Band, should it ever be made.
