In case it somehow slipped your mind, a Deadpool movie is finally on its way to the silver screen at long last, with Ryan Reynolds on board to play the Merc with a Mouth. And today, we bring you news that production is set to get underway in late March when the cameras will begin rolling in the actor’s hometown of Vancouver.

This will be the character’s first appearance on the big screen since Reynolds’ outing as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and it’s still unclear as to whether Fox will remain true to the source material and push for an R-rated film or, on the other hand, opt for a PG-13 classification. In saying that, there’s every chance that director Tim Miller will film for each rating, and release the more controversial scenes via an uncut Blu-Ray edition.

What we do know is that Miller is directing based on a script by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, while Silicon Valley‘s T.J. Miller and Game of Thrones star Ed Skrein are reportedly in talks to star alongside Reynolds.

Given that 20th Century Fox decided to issue the greenlight on the Deadpool movie back in September — following up on some truly amazing test footage — there’s no doubting that the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, once deemed to be a creative risk, helped spurred the creative team behind the long-gestating property into action. Reynolds has long been an advocate of the raunchy, ass-kicking character, and we’re holding out hope that the actor’s loyalty pays off dividends and the studio deliver a Deadpool movie worthy of its name in a year’s time.

Tim Miller will bring the Merc with a Mouth to the silver screen when Deadpool makes its bow on February 12, 2016.
