Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games have unveiled an all-new trailer for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘s upcoming survival mode, Exo Zombies, which looks to considerably up the ante when it arrives in tandem with the shooter’s Havoc expansion pack next week.

Launching first for Xbox platforms — much like all CoD content packs — on January 27, the expansion will comprise four brand spanking new multiplayer maps in the form of Sideshow, Core, Drift and Urban along with new weaponry and in-game bonuses.

But perhaps the headline act of Havoc is the long-awaited introduction of the game’s Exo Zombies, Sledgehammer’s futuristic spin on the franchise’s beloved survival mode. Bringing together the likes of John Malkovich, Jon Bernthal, Rose McGowan and Aliens‘ Bill Paxton (game over, man!) for a bout of action against the undead, Advanced Warfare‘s has all the promise of being something special, and given that it missed the shooter’s launch back in November, fans will no doubt put the question to the sword when it arrives next week.

Havoc is the first of four planned content packs for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, with Ascendance, Supremacy and Reckoning all set to drop throughout the course of 2014. History has taught us that Activision will likely release a new variation of Exo Zombies mode in tandem with each new expansion pack, and we’ll certainly learn more about the future of the mode in the months to come.

What started life as a bonus game for completing the campaign in World at War has now spawned an entire sub-franchise, and given that Zombies Mode still attracts players in its drove — not to mention how much attention it gets through YouTube’s Let’s Play community — we’re excited to see what Sledgehammer dreams up next for the forthcoming expansions.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare‘s Exo Zombies will make its debut when the Havoc expansion pack arrives for Xbox One and Xbox 360 on January 27.
