Mission: Impossible 5 Will Hit Theaters This Summer

This summer marks the release of a few tentpole films, each vying for a space at the top. The biggest is most certainly Avengers: Age of Ultron, but there's also Jurassic World, Ant-Man, and Terminator: Genisys to contend - not to mention all the animated films in the offing. Now we can add yet another franchise installment to our ever-growing list of summer releases, as Mission: Impossible 5 has secured a July 31 release date.

This summer marks the release of a few tentpole films, each vying for a space at the top. The biggest is most certainly Avengers: Age of Ultron, but there’s also Jurassic WorldAnt-Man, and Terminator: Genisys to contend – not to mention all the animated films in the offing. Now we can add yet another franchise installment to our ever-growing list of summer releases, as Mission: Impossible 5 has secured a July 31 release date.

Mission: Impossible 5 marks the return of Tom Cruise and his crew from Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, including Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames. The film is directed by Christopher McQuarrie (who also worked with Cruise in Jack Reacher) from a script by Will Staples and Drew Pearce. There are no plot details available yet, though with this new release date we can expect a bit more information to be forthcoming.

The date shift is a major one for the film: it was initially scheduled for released on December 25 of this year. With this move to the summer though, it puts Mission: Impossible 5 righ smack in the middle of the summer releases, setting itself up to face down films like the Jake Gyllenhaal boxing movie Southpaw and the Point Break remake.

With this new release date, this summer is shaping up to be one of the biggest on record – though sadly we have to remark that the vast majority of releases are, once again, either sequels, franchise entries, or remakes (or all of the above). Nevertheless, at least we can expect some quality action in our local theaters, and maybe one or two surprises along the way.

Mission: Impossible 5 hits theaters on July 31, 2015. We will let you know plot details just as soon as we hear anything, so be certain to check back.
