With the recent release of Resident Evil HD Remaster not to mention the continuing, episodic launch of Revelations 2, Capcom’s illustrious horror franchise is experiencing a small resurgence, which is refreshing to see, given the reception of the most recent major installments. However, in a recent interview with VideoGamer, Michiteru Okabe — who is serving as producer on Revelations 2 — said that the next iteration will “blow our minds.”
Whether this turns out to be Resident Evil 7 or not remains to be seen, and given the fact that Okabe admitted that he knows “nothing” about the in-development title, the following extract should be taken with a grain of salt.
Unfortunately we work on Revelations and that’s kind of it…We don’t really have a window into whatever else is going on. That would be a separate team and whatever that team is doing we’re confident that those guys are going to do something that’s going to blow our minds.
Even if this quote is a little pie-in-the-sky, it’s refreshing to note that Capcom is at least tossing ideas around for a potential Resident Evil 7. Given the middling reception of RE6, there’s no question that the next installment has a considerable amount of expectation resting on its broad, reanimated shoulders. That said, there’s a lot of goodwill for the reputable Resident Evil franchise of late, and the Japanese publisher will no doubt be conscious that its reputation rests on delivering a true, current-gen horror experience.
