After much deliberation, not to mention the back and forth between studios, Deadpool is finally ready to leap onto the silver screen in exactly one year’s time for his first standalone feature. And to mark the occasion, star Ryan Reynolds has posted a teaser image of a costume prototype; specifically, a sneak peek at the titular vigilante’s mask.

Taking to his personal Twitter account, Reynolds posted the following update from the Vancouver set.

Granted, it’s not much to go on, but it’s a timely reminder that we’re living in a world were a Deadpool movie is getting the blockbuster treatment — albeit, not with the same mammoth budget.

At the time of writing, T.J. Miller and Ed Skrein are locked in to star alongside Reynolds in the comic book adaptation, which is casting the net far and wide in search of a leading lady. Last we heard, 20th Century Fox had its eye on a number of actresses including Crystal Reed, Sarah Greene, Taylor Schilling and Jessica De Gouw, along with Firefly and Homeland actress Morena Baccarin.

In what is likely to be an origin film, Ryan Reynolds will once again don the blood-red guise as the Merc with a Mouth, who goes by the name Wade Wilson when he’s not pummelling bad guys or making fourth wall-breaking remarks to the camera. Boasting supernatural powers of healing and near-indestructibility, Deadpool is renown for his infamous, cocksure attitude, and fans of the eclectic character will not doubt be clamouring for information all the way up to the film’s release in a year’s time.

With Tim Miller behind the lens, the superhero flick will be penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick of Zombieland fame. Only 365 sleeps until Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016. I mean, it’s not like we’re counting or anything.
