Nicolas Winding Refn was a very happy winner on Sunday when he picked up the Best Director prize at Cannes for his film Drive which stars Ryan Gosling. After only just finishing the film for Cannes, Refn is finishing prep on his next film Only God Forgives, which is shooting in Thailand this August. So with only a couple months left, a plot synopsis for the film has been released which you can read below.

Julian is on the run from the British police. He runs a Thai Boxing club in Bangkok which is a front for a drugs smuggling operation. He is well respected within the criminal underworld, but deep in his heart he feels that his life is lacking something. He meets a retired cop, The Angel of Vengeance, and finds out that he has to confront his mother.

It’s safe to say that the plot sounds a tad on the crazy side, but Refn manages that very well. He himself has said there is an element of the Western genre in there but it sounds more like a crime movie with elements of the metaphysical. The film stars Kristin Scott Thomas and Luke Evans. Scott Thomas is a proven screen presence and always good no matter what the role, while Evans is an up and coming star who could well be on the track to fame. I’m looking forward to this and we’ll keep you updated on any further developments with the project. (Twitch Film)
