Set in the sunny and sinister locale of Italy, the film stars Lou Taylor Pucci as Evan. A young American reeling with grief after his mother’s death, he opts to go on a backpacking trip around Europe. The intoxicating sense of adventure leads him to meet Louise (Nadia Hilker), an exotic beauty, who whisks him off his feet. Their burgeoning romance intensifies until Evan realizes she may have a more problematic skeleton in her closet than most girlfriends.

Spring directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead are building a solid reputation for delivering out-of-the-box features. The sterling Resolution bowled over critics for its bizarre recipe of drama and horror, and judging by early critical word, so will Spring. Our own Matt Donato caught it at Fantastic Fest last September, and ended his glowing review with the following sign off:

Spring challenges all previous and future competition as the most beautiful film of 2014, presenting a spectacularly acted and ferociously rambunctious horror hybrid that makes Nicholas Sparks adaptations look like child’s play. Benson and Moorhead have created a perfect date movie for all the horror lovers who are subjected to abysmal Hollywood romcoms that regurgitate nothing but the same formulaic bullshit by way of chiseled shirtless studs and makeout sessions in the rain.

Spring opens in theaters and VOD on March 20th.

Evan (Lou Taylor Pucci, Evil Dead, Thumbsucker) is a young American fleeing to Europe to escape his past. While backpacking along the Italian coast, everything changes during a stop at an idyllic Italian village, where he meets and instantly connects with the enchanting and mysterious Louise. A flirtatious romance begins to bloom between the two – however, Evan soon realizes that Louise has been harboring a monstrous, primordial secret that puts both their relationship and their lives in jeopardy.
