Zane Lowe has announced that will be leaving BBC Radio 1, after 11 years with the network, for a job with Apple. The 41-year-old will have a role in the company’s new music streaming service, though how exactly he’ll factor into things is currently unknown. What we do know, however, is that Apple has big plans for the music industry and evidently, they want the New Zealander to be a part of them.

For those unfamiliar with Zane Lowe, he’s become a highly respected and well recognized figure in the industry for not only his excellent BBC show, but also for his prominent interviews, constant championing of emerging artists and seemingly perfect taste making. He’s exposed the world to a lot of incredible talent over the years and a lot of artists owe much of their success to him.

In a statement released earlier today, Lowe said the following about his move from BBC Radio 1 to Apple:

“I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 for their support and friendship. The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country’s best music fans. I’ve loved every minute of it. Exciting times ahead.”

Zane Lowe‘s final show for BBC Radio 1 will take place on March 5th. After that, Annie Mac will take over for him. Whatever his plans might be with Apple, we wish him the best of luck.
