Evil Inhabits New England In We Are Still Here Trailer

I assume that people in horror movies do not watch horror movies. If they did watch horror movies, they would know not to move into that creepy old house that used to be a 19th Century funeral parlor. Then again, if they did not move into that creepy old house, there would be no horror movie, and we would not have anything to talk about.

Creepy old house filled with unstoppable evil is the premise of We Are Still Here, a new horror movie premiering at SXSW. It tells the story of a couple who move into a creepy old house in an equally creepy New England town following the death of their son in a car crash. Unsurprisingly, the house is also home to some vengeful spirits who demand a sacrifice every thirty years…and it looks like the town is going to be certain that the newcomers appease their abode.

We Are Still Here looks like a scary movie in the grand tradition of The Amityville Horror, only with even more blood. There’s a weird guy who informs us of the history of the house (complete with implied cannibalism), and then we get a thumping, screaming soundtrack with some nasty images of the horror this house has wrought. While the plot does seem fairly rote as horror movies go – bereaved couple, haunted house, malevolent townsfolk – the trailer makes things look different and delightfully insane. There’s definitely a lot of potential here. If the film fulfills its trailer’s promise, then we are going to be in for a very enjoyable, very scary time.

We Are Still Here was written and directed by Ted Geoghegan (whose credits mostly include some violent horror films) and stars Barbara Crampton and Sensenig. It will premiere at the SXSW Film Festival this March.
