Inglourious Basterds star Diane Kruger has joined DEA thriller, The Infiltrator. Per Deadline, the actress has signed on to star opposite Breaking Bad alum Bryan Cranston in what’s been previously described as an “investigative thriller.” The sole scrap of information about Kruger’s involvement is this: she’s involved. Kruger is currently shooting Sky and the Penelope Cruz-starrer This Man, This Woman, so, it’s expected that she’ll be tackling this role upon completion of her previous commitments.

Until further details roll in on her female lead part, let’s take a look at the rest of the movie. The thriller is in part based on the autobiography of Robert Mazur, a Floridian who worked as an undercover DEA agent. Cranston will portray Mazur, who during the daytime operated as a customs and excise agent, before taking down big name criminal enterprises in his off-time. A Good Films production, the movie will focus on his experience bringing down fabled drug kingpin, Pablo Escobar.

Taking a peek behind the camera, and The Infiltrator is set to be directed by Brad Furman, who previously worked with Cranston on The Lincoln Lawyer. Adapting the screenplay from Mazur’s novel – The Infiltrator: My Secret Life Inside the Dirty Banks Behind Pablo Escobar’s Medellin Cartel – is Ellen Brown Furman.

We’ll keep you posted when any new developments are made on The Infiltrator. In the meantime, check out the official synopis for Mazur’s book below:

Federal Agent Robert Mazur spent five years undercover as a money launderer to the international underworld, gaining access to the zenith of a criminal hierarchy safeguarded by a circle of dirty bankers and businessmen who quietly shape power across the globe. These men and women control multibillion-dollar drug-trafficking empires, running their organizations like public companies. Accountants, attorneys, and financial advisors, their roots run deep in their communities, and they are laundering billions of dollars a year, manipulating complex international finance systems to serve drug lords, corrupt politicians, tax cheats, and terrorists.

In 1987, Mazur began infiltrating BCCI, bankers behind the Medellín cartel. He meticulously gathered evidence for years until, during a fake wedding, federal agents arrested over 40 high-ranking criminals, who were all found guilty and sent to prison. Never before told, this is the incredible, true story of how he did it.
