How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor is a very busy man. Alongside starring in a wildly popular sitcom already booked to return for at least two more seasons beginning this fall on CBS, Radnor has a thriving career as an independent film director. Radnor’s newest effort begins shooting during his latest break from TV.

The actor is set to go into production very shortly on Liberal Arts, a romantic comedy in which Radnor will co-star with Academy Award nominee Richard Jenkins, Mary Kate and Ashley’s little sister Elizabeth Olsen and Twilight star Elizabeth Reaser.

According to Variety, Liberal Arts will star Radnor as Jesse, a 35 year old admissions worker at Gotham College who returns to his alma mater in Ohio for the retirement party of his favorite professor, played by Richard Jenkins. Elizabeth Olsen plays Zibby, a 19 year old at Radnor’s old school whose family is connected to Jenkins’ family and Elizabeth Reaser plays yet another romantic option for Radnor’s Jesse.

The film will commence production soon with a release sometime in 2012. Josh Radnor’s first independent directorial effort HappyThankyouMorePlease, which also starred himself and Richard Jenkins along with Malin Akerman and Kate Mara debuted at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival to solid reviews before being shelved for a year and put out in limited release in March of 2011.
