Take heed, generals, for developer Wargaming has confirmed plans to launch its free-to-play combat title World of Tanks on the Xbox One at some point in 2015.
According to the report, first picked up by IGN, the port will take advantage of the same battle server as the Xbox 360 version, ensuring cross-platform play between both of Microsoft’s consoles. In fact, those who wish to transition from one generation to the next will be pleased to note that the Xbox One edition will allow players to carry over all of their progress to date, meaning you can pick up exactly where you left off in your pixellated skirmish.
For the uninitiated, World of Tanks is based around a freemium model, meaning Xbox Live Gold members can downloaded the digital title for free and then purchase in-game items and stat buffs if they so please. In addition, it’s understood that Wargaming is offering a 7-day trial to those who don’t own an Xbox Live Gold subscription, meaning you can get a taste of the action before committing to the service itself.
Originally released on PC back in 2011, World of Tanks has since established itself as a bona fide hit in the saturated market of freemium titles. Such success warranted a release on 360 early last year, and it’s popularity shows no signs of slowing down. Wargaming didn’t specify a release date for the Xbox One version at this time, instead asking fans to sate their collective appetite with a bunch of screenshots, which you can find below.
