Even though he’s deep in post-production on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams has his eye out for intriguing future projects. In a new report from The Wrap, it’s been revealed that Abrams and partner Bryan Burk’s production company, Bad Robot, are cooking up an electrifying new feature. Thus far, the details are scant, but we do know it’s expected to revolve around legendary inventor, Thomas Edison.
A joint venture with Paramount – whose studio lot houses the Bad Robot offices – the movie will “depict the legendary inventor as a rugged eccentric genius.” So, that opens the doors nicely for good-looking, buff actors to test for the undoubtedly nerdy and intellectual role (a la Chris Hemsworth in Blackhat).
Early in his prolific career, Edison was dubbed “The Wizard of Menlo Park,” and has since been credited as one of the fathers of cinema. The latter phrase was attached to Edison after he created the motion picture camera. His long list of achievements are staggering to read, and it’s amazing that there hasn’t been a hefty biopic made of his life recently.
As is often the case, there’s a competing project tackling the exact same subject also in development at TWC. Going by the early name of The Current War, that iteration will hone in on a specific period in Thomas Edison‘s life. While progress on that competing title has slowed, now is as good a time as any for Abrams and co. to push forward.
