Offering up our best look at gameplay to date, the footage also gives us a hint at the kind of enemies the final build will contain and, if you’re fluent in Japanese, the story which will underpin the studio’s MMO. As we learned some weeks back, DDO is a free-to-play title that will support up to 100 players in any given lobby. From there, users pledge allegiance to a squad of four to take down some of the realm’s most foreboding foes, whereas the more challenging raid missions will require groups of eight.

Given Capcom’s approach, we can readily expect Dragon Dogma’s Online to feature microtransactions from the get-go. Still, fans of the series will be pleased to note that Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the talent that helped spearhead the original Dragon’s Dogma back in 2012, is on board as an executive producer as the franchise transitions to the MMO genre.

Much like the studio’s other online-centric RPG Deep Down, however, DDO is still without a western release date and it’s understood that Capcom has no plans to announce anything official at this time. Whether the studio is waiting to gauge the game’s appeal in its native territory first before contemplating a global rollout remains to be seen, but for now, we’ll just have to look on at these promising trailers with a hint of jealousy.

We’ll keep you posted on the status of Dragon’s Dogma Online as Capcom gears up for its Japanese debut. In the meantime, you can share your impressions of the above trailer using the comments.
