Watch Rachel Weisz In The Whistleblower Trailer

The Whistleblower has been making the rounds on the festival circuit lately and it has been receiving pretty good reviews. Larysa Kondracki‘s political thriller which hits theatres August 5th, stars Rachel Weisz and is based on true events. Today we get the first trailer and from the looks of it, it comes off as compelling and genuinely gripping. Rachel Weisz looks like she will be giving another stellar performance and the supporting cast which consists of Vanessa Redgrave, Monica Bellucci, Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Treadway and David Strathairn is appealing as well. My only concern with this one is that Weisz's performance may overshadow the film, turning it into one of those movies where the rest of the film pales in comparison to the lead performance, where the only good thing about the film is the central performance. So will The Whistleblower turn out to be a good film, or will it be worth a watch only for Weisz's performance? What do you think?

Our own Blake Griffin reviewed the film a while back and said that:

For an issue that is not getting the attention it deserves, this sort of well put together film can and should bring to light the truth. Sugarcoating it would do no one any good.  Grisly authenticity is one of the film’s greatest aspects. Kondracki shows great promise with her direction. Pacing is tight for the most part, and the film feels well polished.

His review, along with other reviews does give me hope, but I’m going to reserve judgement until I see the film. Check out the trailer below and be sure to read our interview with director Larysa Kondracki.

Inspired by actual events, Kathy (Academy Award(R) winner Rachel Weisz) is an American police officer who takes a job working as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia. Her expectations of helping to rebuild a devastated country are dashed when she uncovers a dangerous reality of corruption, cover-up and intrigue amid a world of private contractors and multinational diplomatic doubletalk. Directed by first time filmmaker Larysa Kondracki, the film also stars Academy Award winner Vanessa Redgrave, Monica Bellucci and Academy Award nominee David Strathairn.
