Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! To Air July 22nd

It's only fitting that a B-movie franchise geared toward generating social media interest for its endangered clutch of faded stars has kicked up the silliness for its third instalment. Syfy's uber-successful Sharknado series is currently in production for a third outing which has now garnered a suitably wacky subtitle. Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! is heading to the small screen this July, and network brass are behind it 100%.

It’s only fitting that a B-movie franchise geared toward generating social media interest for its endangered clutch of faded stars has kicked up the silliness for its third instalment. Syfy’s uber-successful Sharknado series is currently in production for a third outing which has now garnered a suitably wacky subtitle. Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! is heading to the small screen this July, and network brass are behind it 100%.

In a statement accompanying the announcement Syfy’s SVP, Chris Regina said:

“We wanted this third title to boldly go where no shark movie has gone before. Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! embraces the larger-than-life irreverence that has made these movies so popular and entertaining.

Where Sharknado destroyed Los Angeles, and Sharknado 2 saw New York City subjected to the perils of a shark-infested weather incident, Sharknado 3 will unleash its wrath on the nation’s capital. Starting out in Washington D.C., the tide of toothy terror is set to hit up all major cities along the east coast before concluding in Florida.

As expected, the series’ resident experts in all shark-related weather phenomena, Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, are back to handle the event. As Fin and April, the pair will be guided into delivering more believable responses to the situation by director Anthony C. Ferrante, who helms from a script by returning scribe Thunder Levin.

Honestly, the idea of new blood might serve the franchise well. By spicing up character interaction, dynamics and story, the films may appeal to a different demographic. But given that SyFy has scored immense success with this line-up – it’s unlikely. As the old saying goes, if it ain’t broke…

Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! is set to air on SyFy July 22nd.
