International Mad Max: Fury Road Trailer Showcases The Action; Film Lands R-Rating

Along with the announcement that George Miller would be revisiting the Wasteland's sun-scorched dystopia for Mad Max: Fury Road came another familiar franchise-related query. Would this long-awaited return remain true to the original movies in its unabashed quest for blood-soaked action? Apparently, fans of Miller's work won't need to wonder any more, as the MPAA (via JoBlo) has granted the movie an R-rating on the grounds that it includes "intense sequences of violence throughout," along with "disturbing images."

This news now guarantees a more adult movie that hews closer to its original source. It was expected that the studio would push for a PG-13 classification in order to boost box office revenue, but in light of the MPAA’s decision, it looks as though Max’s frantic journey across the Wasteland won’t skimp on the violence.

Coincidentally, a new international trailer edited for Japanese audiences has appeared on the web. Much like previous teasers, it sets up the story and pushes forward on the kinetic energy we’ve come to expect from the franchise. Tom Hardy leads the pic as the troubled Max who joins forces with Charlize Theron’s badass Furiosa and her gang, who are pursued across the arid landscape by a tyrannical leader. Another epic Road War is on the cards, and this new tease is making us wish it had already begun.

Mad Max: Fury Road opens on May 15.

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
