Warner Bros. upcoming buddy comedy from We’re The Millers‘ helmer Rawson Marshall Thurber looks set to enrapture audiences in summer 2016. Starring Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, Central Intelligence has finally secured a release date, as Variety reports it will open on June 17, 2016 alongside Disney’s animated sequel, Finding Dory.
In the film, Hart plays a former high school sports star-turned-accountant. He is contacted by a old school friend (played by Johnson) who was bullied and humiliated as a teen but now works as an undercover contract killer for the CIA. So that Hart’s character can make amends, Johnson’s agent proceeds to rope him into helping foil a plot to sell classified military secrets.
Elsewhere on Warner’s slate, Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling detective thriller The Nice Guys has also been shuffled around. Initially set to open on June 17, 2016, the Shane Black-directed pic will bow a month earlier on May 20. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, the film revolves around Gosling’s inept private detective Holland March, who becomes acquainted with Crowe’s hard-headed thug. In its new date, it’s now set to go up against Sony’s Angry Birds adaptation.
Turning to another studio and Focus Features has also pushed one of their upcoming titles forward by a couple of weeks. Tarsem Singh’s Self/less starring Ryan Reynolds and Ben Kingsley was previously scheduled to open July 31, 2015 but will instead drop on July 10, 2015. Based on the first trailer that arrived last week, it’s a unique-looking sci-fi thriller that will be well worth checking out.
