George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road Set To Premiere At Cannes Film Festival

2015 belongs to the Mad. At least, that's what Warner Bros. and the marketing team behind George Miller's upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road would have you believe. But with less than three months until the film's hotly-anticipated release, it also belongs to Croisette as it's understood that the upcoming reboot will screen out of competition during the Cannes Film Festival on May 14.

2015 belongs to the Mad. At least, that’s what Warner Bros. and the marketing team behind George Miller’s upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road would have you believe. But with less than three months until the film’s hotly-anticipated release, it also belongs to Croisette, as it’s understood that the upcoming reboot will screen out of competition during the Cannes Film Festival on May 14.

Given that Fury Road‘s worldwide release is pegged for the following day, this news means that the post-apocalyptic actioner will have its premiere at Cannes. A surprising move, sure, but adding the feature to the prestigious festival’s line-up is a hallmark of quality, and it’ll be interesting to see how Miller’s modern retelling is met by those in attendance.

For the uninitiated, Mad Max: Fury Road orbits around Tom Hardy’s titular lone wolf, who scours the unforgiving Wasteland in search of, well, everything, really. His solace is soon upended, though, when he comes face to face with the devious Immortan Joe, and it’s up to Max to team up with Furiosa (Charlize Theron) in order to take down the megalomaniac once and for all.

Mad Max: Fury Road will bring together Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Riley Keough, and Hugh Keays-Byrne. It arrives on May 15.

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
