Ever the advocates of uncovering casting rumors and the ilk, Latino Review has served up another unconfirmed report today that states Marvel is allegedly looking to lock down Anchorman and Step Brothers helmer Adam McKay to direct one of the studio’s upcoming superhero films.

The outlet is, however, quick to note that this is still unconfirmed, though McKay playing an integral role in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t exactly outside the realm of possibility. For one, the director served as co-writer on Ant-Man alongside working partner Paul Rudd — after he was once in line to direct the flick following the Edgar Wright kerfuffle — not to mention his comedic chops in the genre.

Now that the Russo brothers are locked in to direct Avengers: Infinity War, there aren’t many films on the studio’s slate that are vacant; in fact, those with empty directors chairs include Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and Inhumans. With the wheels already beginning to turn on the latter project thanks to the crossover with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. it seems safe to assume that, if Marvel is indeed screening candidates for a possible new director, it would be to helm the upcoming Inhumans. Much like Guardians, this is certainly one of the studio’s lesser known properties, giving McKay more of a blank canvas to work with in his own atypical, comedic fashion.

Marvel took a risk with the likes of James Gunn and the Russo brothers, and each paid of dividends as evidenced by the success of Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Is Adam McKay being lined up as the studio’s next gamble?
