The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki Boards Horror Sequel Rings

Switching out geek-centric chatter for far more terrifying subject matter, The Big Bang Theory's Johnny Galecki is the latest in a line of recent additions to board Paramount's horror sequel Rings. Originally the film was mistakenly described as a prequel; a matter which director F. Javier Gutierrez soon cleared up. With that matter taken care of it's since been explained that the third entry in the studio's J-horror remake trilogy is actually set after The Ring Two.

Switching out geek-centric chatter for far more terrifying subject matter, The Big Bang Theory‘s Johnny Galecki is the latest in a line of recent additions to board Paramount’s horror sequel Rings.

Originally, the film was mistakenly described as a prequel; a matter which director F. Javier Gutierrez soon cleared up. With that matter taken care of, it’s since been explained that the third entry in the studio’s J-horror remake trilogy is actually set after The Ring Two.

In Gutierrez’s long-gestating sequel, penned by David Loucka, Jacob Aaron Estes, and Akiva Goldsman, the story picks up 13 years after the events of the last outing. This time, a new roster of people unable to grasp the simple concept of the cursed videotape are bound for grisly, watery deaths. Italian actress Matilda Lutz stars as Julia, a teen who comes across a copy of Samara’s cassette, and The 5th Wave‘s Alex Roe co-stars as her boyfriend Holt, who presumably tries to dissuade her from watching it.

Newcomer Galecki will be on hand to aid the troubled teen duo as Gabriel, described by Deadline as “a handsome, pleasure-seeking professor who mentors and helps boyfriend and girlfriend duo, Holt and Julia.” The report alludes to several sources who suggest that Gabriel will be a “complete departure” for Galecki in contrast to his uber-nerd Leonard on TBBT. He also joins Scream 4 star Aimee Teegarden, who signed onto production earlier this week; perhaps due to the fact principal photography has recently commenced in Atlanta.

Elsewhere, another unsubstantiated rumor delivered by the folks at Shock Till You Drop points toward a character from the two earlier movies making an appearance. Whether or not it will pan out is unknown at this point, but the inclusion of Aidan Keller (the son of Naomi Watts’ intrepid reporter Rachel) might tie together the franchise with a neat interconnected-bow that’s all the rage at the moment.

Rings is slated to arrive in cinemas on November 13, 2015.
