Tom Hardy Contracted For Three More Movies Following Mad Max: Fury Road

Warner Bros. is powering up for the launch of its forthcoming blockbuster reboot Mad Max: Fury Road by blasting the moviegoing world with a glut of phenomenal teasers, images and action-packed trailers. The rigorous campaign has shifted somewhat into more familiar territory now, as the actors attached are doing their bit to up the pre-release buzz during press interviews. One of the film’s topliners Tom Hardy is one such name, who during an interview with Esquire confirmed his future involvement in the franchise.

Based on what we’ve already learned of the franchise reboot, Mad Max: Fury Road was previously touted by director George Miller as the first of a brand new set of movies. Following the film’s presentation at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the filmmaker addressed the crowds and fielded several questions regarding sequels. “In order to tell this story, we came up with two others,” he said. “We’ve written the screenplay of one and the novelization of another, but it’s a very rough novel.” And so it transpires that Fury Road was not intended to be a standalone feature. It’s in fact part of a much larger tapestry of tales.

In light of Hardy’s interview with the prolific magazine, one if not all of those instalments will find the actor reprising his role as the titular road warrior. But don’t go betting your bottom dollar on that fact just yet. The fate of Mad Max’s follow-up jaunts depend on one defining factor: box office receipts.

“I’ve never been more excited and out of my comfort zone.” He’s seen the film, and says it’s “fucking unbelievable”. He’s attached to a further three Mad Max films, though as he says, “Everything’s based on figures and how things are perceived. Inevitably it’s a business.”
