Marvel is sending the creative team behind Captain America and Captain America: The Winter Solider to infinity and beyond. Following the confirmation that Joe and Anthony Russo will take the reigns off Joss Whedon for the superhero sequel, Badass Digest brings word that Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have been tapped to pen the script for both parts of Avengers: Infinity War.

Today’s news only offers up more evidence of the confidence that the studio has in the writing pair. Along with their work on Steve Rogers’ cinematic outings, Markus and McFeely have also worked on Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World, not to mention shepherding Agent Carter – a show that has proven to be an out-and-out success for Marvel – to existence on ABC.

Much has been said about Joss Whedon’s imminent departure from the MCU, and though the fan favorite director is likely to remain on board as a producer, overseeing the finer details in the studio’s ever-evolving universe, it’ll be difficult to see him part ways with a shared universe he laid the foundations for. Despite this, with the Russo brothers at the helm and working from a script provided by Markus and McFeely, Phase 3 is being left in capable hands, and we’re already excited to see how the creative team bring their knowledge of all-things-Marvel to what will likely be the most grandiose entry in the entire MCU.

Before taking the fight to Thanos directly, though, the foursome will unite for next year’s Captain America: Civil War, which no doubt act as the perfect jumping off point to kick Phase 3 into gear.

Avengers: Infinity War will hit theaters in two parts, with Part I and Part II arriving on May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019, respectively.
