Little Boy takes us back to the days of World War II and into the life of an 8-year old boy named Pepper Flint Busbee (played by newcomer Jakob Salvati). Pepper is nicknamed Little Boy because of his diminutive size, and as a result, he’s the target for the town bullies.
He ends up escaping those troubles, however, with his dad James (Michael Rapaport), as they employ their vivid imaginations to go on a number of incredible adventures. It’s not long though before the real world comes crashing down on them and Pepper’s father is drafted to fight in the war, leaving the young boy determined to end the conflict and bring his father home.
Last week during the film’s press day in LA, I had the chance to speak with both leads. During our interview, Michael talked about how important it is for people to hang onto that childlike sense of imagination into adulthood, and Jakob described to me what it was like holding his own against such well-established actors like Emily Watson, Tom Wilkinson, Ben Chaplin and of course, Michael.
