UPDATE:Â A bevy of details relating to Star Wars Battlefront have leaked early, confirming that DICE’s shooter will indeed release on November 17. Taking place during the events of the original trilogy, locations within the game will range from Tatooine, Hoth and, as part of a free batch of DLC coming in December, Jakku. Additionally, it’s understood you can play as Darth Vader, pilot AT-ATs and even fly your own X-Wings. In sum, Battlefront is boasting all of the elements of the classic Star Wars we know and love.
Here’s what Designer Director Niklas Fegraeus had to share at this early stage.
You can storm in as the Dark Lord [Darth Vader, not Voldemort] himself. You can wield a lightsaber. You can Force choke the rebel scum, which is fun. Basically, you are the boss of the battle. This means that you, as Vader, can lead your team to victory — if you play well.
Stay tuned for more Battlefront tidbits throughout the day.
Original story follows…
With Star Wars fans – us included – still reeling from the wondrous new trailer for The Force Awakens, EA and DICE are attempting to capitalize on all of the pent-up hype by debuting new information for Star Wars Battlefront during the ongoing celebration in Anaheim. However, with all eyes trained on the event, it was almost inevitable that the Internet would uncover certain details ahead of time, one of which just so happens to be the shooter’s release date, which is allegedly pegged for November 17, 2015.
If this recent report is to be believed, that date will herald the launch of DICE’s Battlefield-inspired title for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and while many had assumed that Battlefront would follow a similar route to Uncharted 4 and Remedy’s Quantum Break by slipping to 2016, the company is evidently trying to align the launch date with the arrival of The Force Awakens in December. A logical decision, of course.
Still, we don’t know an awful lot about Battlefront since it was formally unveiled back in 2013. Honing inspiration from Lucasfilm’s legendary franchise, the game will indeed include environments from the original trilogy, including Hoth and Endor as you can see above – no word yet on the appearance of Ewoks, though. In addition, yesterday EA teased the design of the game’s Stormtroopers, offering up an old school take on the droids you’re looking for.
According to the schedule of Star Wars Celebration, the publisher is due to reveal more information relating to Star Wars Battlefront later today. Only then will we know for sure if this purported release of November 17 is indeed accurate.
