Blizzard has formally announced plans to release its MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) title Heroes of the Storm on June 2, following an extended open beta prior to the official launch.

Currently simmering in closed beta, the studio’s genre mash-up is posed to graduate into open beta beginning May 19, ostensibly giving players the opportunity to take the game out for a spin before committing to jumping in day and date. As Heroes of the Storm is a free-to-play experience, MOBA fans can expect that in-game cosmetics and buffs will be available at an additional cost.

For the uninitiated, Blizzard’s hotly-anticipated title is essentially a ‘Greatest Hits’ album for the prestigious company, dragging together players from the likes of Diablo, StarCraft and the World of Warcraft for a bout of inter-dimensional conflict set across the Nexus. According to Blizzard, more than 30 heroes will be available from day-one, with plans to introduce new characters and playable personas in the weeks and months after, as the service finds its feet in what has become one of the most competitive genres in the industry.

We’ll keep you right up-to-date on all of the news and trinkets pertaining to Heroes of the Storm as Blizzard add that final layer of pre-release polish to the company’s ambitious MOBA. In the meantime, you can let us know whether you’re excited for the company’s genre piece down below.
