Transformers 5 Due In 2017 As Part Of Confirmed Cinematic Universe

Not long ago, in this very galaxy, there was an unwritten rule which allowed movies to exist throughout time... without a sequel. Or prequel, reboot, remake, sidequel or reset. And for that matter, they didn't have to slot into an all-encompassing universe of interconnected films, either. However, that was then and this is now, and movie culture today asserts that for a property to succeed it helps to have other movies relating to it in order to strongly promote a unified brand. And so, the next title selected to join the likes of Marvel, Warner and Sony's cinematic universes is Paramount's Transformers.

Not long ago, in this very galaxy, there was an unwritten rule which allowed movies to exist throughout time… without a sequel. Or prequel, reboot, remake, sidequel or reset. And for that matter, they didn’t have to slot into an all-encompassing universe of interconnected films, either. However, that was then and this is now, and movie culture today asserts that for a property to succeed it helps to have other movies relating to it in order to strongly promote a unified brand. And so, the next title selected to join the likes of Marvel, Warner and Sony’s cinematic universes is Paramount’s Transformers.

In a roundabout way, we already knew this was on the cards, thanks to an earlier report outlining the studio’s plan to place Akiva Goldsman at the helm of a writer’s ‘brain trust.’ Now, Hasbro has further verified this talk and even firmed up a potential release date for the next autobot-decepticon battle in Transformers 5.

During the company’s quarterly earnings call, CEO Brian Goldner relayed the following:

“Our plan with the studio and filmakers you may have heard some writers being hired and we have in fact brought in Akiva Goldsman to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers. We think there are any number of stories to be told from the brand that has been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie [TF4] to happen in 2017.”

Who’s likely to steer that sequel into mutliplexes? The man behind the ‘bots, Michael Bay, is currently shooting Benghazi-actioner 13 Hours, but is apparently keen to push forward with production on Transformers 5. It’s no wonder that the studio would probably shuffle things around for him, considering Transformers 4 netted $1 billion worldwide. For a fifth installment, the logical step would be to continue the ‘new trilogy’ kickstarted by Age Of Extinction, but in light of all this ‘interconnected universe’ talk, it’s anybody’s guess as to where a fifth movie may lead.

Tell us, are you interested in seeing another outing for this series? If so, which direction would you like to see it head in? Sound off below!
