After a long period of radio silence, we’re finally beginning to learn more about Avalanche’s Mad Max with each passing week. And today, Warner Bros.’ has teased our imminent trip Down Under with a bevy of concept art from the studio’s upcoming post-apocalyptic adventure, showcasing the grim tone and sun-scorched locales we can expect.

Built around an open-world framework — not unlike Avalanche’s other genre piece, Just CauseMad Max will thrust players into George Miller’s unforgiving Wasteland, an arid environment where any semblance of society has long withered under the unrelenting sun. Players will step into the dusty shoes of the titular Road Warrior, as they traverse across the Plains of Silence competing various quests along the way.

According to a Game Informer report from a couple of months ago, Avalanche has cut the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the upcoming actioner in order to double down on the current-gen and PC release. From these screens above, Mad Max is already looking visually sharp, meaning that the decision to axe the last-gen ports was perhaps the best route to take.

Avalanche’s Mad Max will follow in the footsteps of George Miller’s upcoming summer blockbuster when it releases across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 1.

Mad Max delivers open world gameplay in a post-apocalyptic setting where cars are the key to survival. Developed by Avalanche Studios, gamers become Mad Max, a lone warrior who must fight to stay alive in The Wasteland, using vicious on-ground and vehicular combat against savage bandits. Following the theft of his iconic Interceptor, Max must align himself with a gifted, but peculiar, mechanic named Chumbucket and others to build the ultimate war vehicle as he works to escape from the dangerous Wasteland.
