While he couldn’t reveal much, and understandably so, MTV was able to get him to explain whether we should view the film as a sequel to Man of Steel or not. In the past, that question has been a bit debatable, though in recent months, it’s become clear that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is not a direct sequel to Zack Snyder’s 2013 film, which is exactly what Cavill said:

“I’ve only seen a little bit of ADR stuff, but that’s it, and that wasn’t even in color.  I’m hoping to see it [the whole movie] some time this year, for a friends and family screening or something. But I really know nothing about what the finished product looks like.

I wouldn’t call this a Superman sequel. This is Batman versus Superman, so it’s a separate entity altogether. It’s introducing the Batman character, and expanding upon this universe, which was kicked off by ‘Man of Steel’.  It’s an introduction to the [Batman] character, and ultimately an introduction to ‘Justice League.'”

So, nothing too revolutionary there. Once we learned of all the various superheroes that would be introduced in the film, it became quite clear that it was essentially acting as an opening to DC’s Cinematic Universe and eventually, the Justice League movie. However, we do have to wonder, if Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is mainly functioning as an intro to Batman and the Justice League as a whole, how much focus will there be on Supes? And, will those hoping for a proper continuation of his tale from Man of Steel be disappointed by what’s on offer here? Only time will tell, but we certainly hope that they’ve found a way to balance everything properly.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Jesse Eisenberg, Gal Gadot, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, Scoot McNairy and Jason Momoa and opens in theaters on March 25, 2016.
